Breasts and Eggs
Mieko Kawakami

Project Overview
With its powerful emotional charge, Kawakami’s deceptively spare prose paints a multifaceted and moving portrait of the modern Japanese woman - her doubts, questions, and moral dilemmas, her yearning for self-affirmation, inner peace, and a future in a society that offers no easy chances.
Idea behind the cover
I chose this exact moment to depict on the cover because it is the most emotionally intense part of the story. The three protagonists finally express their emotions by throwing eggs at each other. It’s an extremely feminine moment, filled with emotion, anger, but also love and tenderness.
