Project Overview
The Road to Lapland is a Christmas novel by Dimitra Popova, a Bulgarian writer and actress. It is a story she first imagined together with her sister when they were children. At the heart of the story are three magical toys who carry letters to Santa Claus.
The dolls featured in the story are Dimitra’s actual childhood dolls, which she asked me to illustrate for the book. This made the project especially personal: objects from her own childhood became characters in a story that had lived in her imagination for years.
What began as an imaginary story created by two children eventually became a reality - a heartwarming Christmas novel that carries the magic of childhood into a new generation.
